Stucker, Brent  PhD

Dr. Brent Stucker is the Clark Chair of Computer Aided Engineering and a Professor of Industrial Engineering at the University of Louisville and holds simultaneous appointments in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering and the School of Dentistry. Dr. Stucker is also the CEO and Co-Founder of 3DSIM, LLC, a company focused on commercializing the world’s most efficient algorithms for simulating additive manufacturing processes. Dr. Stucker’s research is focused on additive manufacturing (a.k.a. 3D Printing) technologies and their applications, with projects ranging from new materials development for biomedical implants and aerospace/defense structures to multi-scale modeling and control of additive manufacturing machines. Prof. Stucker held previous faculty appointments in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at Utah State University from 2002-2010, in Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Rhode Island from 1997-2002 and as a Visiting Professor and Fulbright Scholar at VTT Technical Research Center, Finland, from 2008-2009 and 2013 respectively. Dr. Stucker led the establishment of the ASTM International Committee F42 on Additive Manufacturing Technologies in 2008 and was the first Chairman from 2009-2014. He was awarded the 2012 Industry Achievement Award by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the 2010 Robert J. Painter Memorial Award by ASTM and SES for his leadership in the area of international standards. In 2005 he received the SLS Users Group “SLS Dinosaur Award,” recognizing his long-term contributions to Selective Laser Sintering technology. He also received the 2000 University of Rhode Island Outstanding Research award and the 2001 Albert E. Carlotti Faculty Excellence Award. Dr. Stucker has co-authored a leading textbook on Additive Manufacturing Technologies. He is a named inventor on numerous issued and pending patents, has authored or co-authored more than 150 technical publications, and has presented more than 200 talks at conferences around the world. Dr. Stucker is one of the world’s leading researchers in additive manufacturing, with more than 20 years of contiguous additive manufacturing research funding from industry and government agencies such as the Office of Naval Research, National Science Foundation, Air Force Research Laboratories, GE and Northrup Grumman. In addition, he is a member of the Information Science and Technology advisory board for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and is a regular advisor to government agencies and international organizations interested in additive manufacturing. Dr. Stucker was Editor for North and South America of the Rapid Prototyping Journal from 2004-2009 and sits on leadership committees for several journals and international manufacturing conferences. Dr. Stucker is an active member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and has served on SME’s Rapid Technologies & Additive Manufacturing Steering Committee.
