Dr.John Philip obtained a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. He did postdoctoral research at CNRS, France, and at the University of Hull, UK. Presently, he is the Associate Director of the Materials Characterization Group and Head of the Smarts Materials section at the metallurgy and materials group. He is also a Professor of the Homi Bhabha National Institute and an elected Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences. He has six patents in his credit and over 310 publications in leading refereed international journals. His H-index is 61 with over 16300 citations and a cumulative impact factor of ~ 1300. He has delivered more than 185 invited lectures in India and abroad. His name is listed in both the categories of the World’s top 2% scientists data published by Stanford University, USA in 2019, 2020, and 2022. He is one of the top 1% of materials science scientists in the world ranking of researchcom(2022). He is the recipient of several awards, which include the Science and Technology excellence award, INS medal, NDT Man of the year award, MRSI medal, Ron Halmshaw Award of British Institute of NDT, Distinguished Faculty Award, and Homi Bhabha Science and Technology award. He is also won several international fellowships such as Monbusho Japan, Swiss national research fellowship, French Govt fellowship, and Swedish research fellowship. He is the recipient of the highest BRNS prospective research grant of 5.6 crores, which he used to start a vibrant activity on ferrofluid in 2000. He has established state-of-the-art nanofluid research facilities, started eight new research topics, and has carried out path-breaking fundamental and applied research in the field of ferrofluids. Research activity on ferrofluids started by him has grown and flourished in many directions, with stellar accomplishments in both basic and applied fields. His work and ideas have made an enormous impact on the science and technology of ferrofluids and have high visibility nationally and internationally. His research works are highlighted in Nature, Nanotech web, UK, The Hindu, Indian Express, and many other media several times. He was the founding editor-in-chief of the Journal of Nanofluids of American Scientific Publishers and served as EIC for 8 years. He is an editor and editorial board member of several journals and a reviewer of journals and funding agencies. He was a research council member of ARCI (DST) Hyderabad and two other CSIR labs during 2017-2020, a Member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of DST, an academic council member of Hindustan University, and medical Biotechnology and nano-technology sectional committee of the Bureau of Indian standards. 22 Ph.D. students have completed their Ph.D. under his guidance.
