Eathakkattu Antony, Benny Samuel  PhD

Dr. Antony completed a degree related to Medicine with first class post-graduate diploma. He was successful in an international scholarship to do a PhD in musculoskeletal medical research at Menzies Institute for Medical Research, University of Tasmania, Australia. His PhD focussed on childhood and adulthood determinants of knee joint health in young adults. His expertise includes quantitative and semiquantitative measurements of knee structures from MRI and design, conduct, analysis and scientific writing of clinical trials and cohort studies. He is an investigator for various multicenter NHMRC-funded clinical trials. Competitive fellowships (Arthritis Australia, NHMRC) support his postdoctoral research at the Menzies. He has received grants from competitive sources totalling >$1.5 million and has published over 100 articles and two book chapters. His publications include top-tier journals such as JAMA, Lancet, Ann Intern Med, BMJ and Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases. He has received young investigator awards from various organisations (ASBMR, OARSI, APLAR, ARA) and was selected as the state finalist for the Young Scientist Award and winner of a Young Tall Poppy Award. He is a member of the Young Investigator Committee of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI), and a Future Global Leaders Committee member of the International Federation of Musculoskeletal Research Societies (IFMRS). He is a peer reviewer for >35 international journals, including Annals of Internal Medicine and a grant review panel member of NHMRC and Rheumafonds. He has given oral presentations at the annual scientific meetings of the American College of Rheumatology, European Rheumatology Conference (EULAR), OARSI and Australian Rheumatology Conferences.
