Demosthenes Bouros, MD, PhD, FERS, FCCP, FAPSR SHORT CURRICULUM VITAE Demosthenes Bouros is emeritus professor of Pneumonology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Medical School, Greece. He was elected assistant Professor of Pneumonology (1989) and associate Professor (1995-2002), at the Medical School, University of Crete, and Professor of Pneumonology at the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece (2002-2014), and Professor of Pneumonology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece (2014-). He is director of the interstitial lung disease unit (ILDU) of the Medical School based at the Hospital for Diseases of the Chest in Athens, which is considered a National center of excellence. He was trained at Harvard and Boston Universities, USA, and the Royal Brompton Hospital, UK. He warded as visiting professor at the Medical University of Vienna by the European Respiratory Society (ERS). He has published >550 articles (Scopus), has >35.000 citations, H index 77 (Google Scholar), is/was member of the Editorial Board of many prestigious medical journals, including LANCET-Respiratory Medicine, CHEST, RESPIRATION, BMC series, etc., and Editor-in-chief of the official journal of the Hellenic Thoracic Society Pneumon. Member of the ATS/ERS/JRS/ALAT committee for the idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) official guidelines (AJRCCM 2011 and 2018) and the ATS/ERS new classification of idiopathic interstitial pneumonias (IIPs) (AJRCCM 2013). Editor of the book “Pleural Disease, 2nd ed, Informa, NY). He was elected as a foundation member of the fellows of the European Respiratory Society (FERS), is member of the board of the Hellenic Thoracic Society, fellow of the American College of 2 Chest Physicians (FCCP) and the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (FAPSR). He is an honorary member of many societies of Pneumonology in various countries. He is the national representative to EUROPEAN UNION OF MEDICAL SPECIALISTS (UEMS) for the rare diseases. He has been director of two master degree programs, one in “clinical pharmacology and therapeutics” and the other in “sleep medicine”. He has been elected and served as the National Delegate of the ERS (1999-2003), a member of the council and the nomination committee of the ERS (2002-2003), and a member of the long-range planning committee of the ATS and the ERS. He served as an auditor of the ERS (2004-2007) and he is a member of the Assembly on Allergy, Inflammation and Immunology (AII) Program Committee of the ATS. He is mentor of many young doctors and invited lecturer for many scientific societies internationally. His main research interests include the pathophysiologic/pathogenetic mechanisms and treatment of interstitial lung diseases (pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis) and pleural diseases.
