Kameas, Achilles  PhD

Dr. Eng. Achilles D. Kameas is Professor of Pervasive Computing Systems at Hellenic Open University (HOU) since 2003. He serves as Dean of the School of Science & Technology since 2022. He is Member of the Board of HOU Lifelong Learning Center and the HOU Gender Equality Committee and Director of the HOU Internal Evaluation Unit. He is the Director of Studies of the MSc course “Pervasive and Mobile Computing Systems”. He established the Ubiquitous and Mobile Computing, Quality and Ambient Intelligence Laboratory. He is the Founder and Head of DAISSy Research Group (http://daissy.eap.gr) and Scientific Coordinator of RU3 at Computer Technology Institute and Press “Diophantus”. In the past he served as the Director of the Educational Content, Methodology & Technology Laboratory and the Career Office of HOU. At international level, Achilles is member of the Board of ALL DIGITAL since 2017 (he served as the Vice-chair between 2018-19 and the Chair of the Board between 2019-21). He is national representative in CEN PC428 on e-competences and ICT professionalism and member of the CEPIS IT Professionalism in Europe. He participates in the Task Force on Diversity & Inclusion of EADTU, leading the work on the Inclusion of migrants in European Higher Education. He has collaborated with JRC in the evaluation of DigComp 2.1 and the development of DigComp 2.2 being responsible for the inclusion of IoT statements in the framework. He was member of the ESCO Committee on ICT Services. At national level, Achilles is member in the ELOT Standardization Committee on Resilient and Smart Cities, the National Digital Skills and Jobs Coalition, the ReBrain Greece initiative and the UNHCR Working Group in Higher Education. Achilles has been promoting an inclusive society as a result of digital transformation, via teaching and developing MOOCs and blended courses. He has contributed to standards EN 16234 and ISO 37101, to DigComp 2.2 and to the development of the occupational profile of Intercultural Mediator. He co-authored the Manifesto for Intelligent Environments, the ALL DIGITAL Manifesto for Enhancing Digital Competences across Europe, the Cedefop Working Paper on Learning providers and Migration: Empowerment and Integration through Learning and the EADTU Diversity and Inclusion in Higher Education report. He contributed to the development of STEAMEduComp, the STEAM educators competence framework and Self-Assessment Tool. Achilles has participated in more than 100 EU and national R&D projects, has published more than 200 scientific articles, co-authored more than 10 books and received more than 2000 citations.
