Wani, Mohmmad Younus  PhD

Associate Professor at Jeddah University    sa
Researcher with 102 publications in the last 15 years
Dr. Wani is an associate professor of organic and medicinal chemistry in the College of Science, University of Jeddah, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. His core research area is the development of new small-molecule inhibitors and novel strategies and approaches to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). WHO has declared that antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the top 10 global public health threats facing humanity. AMR has the potential to have an impact on humans at any stage of life, as well as the medical, veterinary, and agricultural sectors. This makes it one of the most important public health issues in the world. The cost of AMR to the economy is significant. In addition to death and disability, prolonged illness results in longer hospital stays, the need for more expensive medicines, and financial challenges for those impacted. Without effective antimicrobials, the success of modern medicine in treating infections, including during major surgery and cancer chemotherapy, would be at increased risk. At the interface of chemistry and biology, Dr. Wani and his group are involved in the development of new small-molecule inhibitors, novel strategies, and approaches to circumvent the AMR problem. With extensive experience in the field of medicinal chemistry and drug discovery, he has authored/co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed research articles and 06 books and is the recipient of many prestigious honors, awards, and grants. He is a professional member of many scientific societies and is on the editorial board of many reputed scientific journals. Dr. Wani is working at the interface of chemistry and biology to advance the field with new questions and pertinent issues of the 21st century. show More
