Dr Hanna Hölling is Research Professor at the University of the Arts in Bern and Honorary Fellow at the University College London. Prior to these appointments, she was Associate Professor, Department of History of Art, University College London; Andrew W. Mellon Visiting Professor, Cultures of Conservation, at the Bard Graduate Center in New York; Research Fellow at the University of Amsterdam, and Head of Conservation at the Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany. She obtained her Ph.D in 2013 from the University of Amsterdam, Institute of Art History and Cultural Studies with a thesis on questions of identity, time, and change in film, video, and multimedia works of art. Her research has been supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation, Terra Foundation for American Art at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, The Getty Foundation in Los Angeles (Getty Conservation Guest Scholarship), UCL GLobal Engagement Fond, Visiting Scholarship at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin and the Dutch Research Council at the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research). Her writings appeared in peer-reviewed journals, edited volumes and exhibition catalogs. Among her books are two sole authored monographs, Paik’s Virtual Archive: On Time, Change and Materiality in Media Art (University of California Press, 2017) and Revisions-Zen for Film (Bard Graduate Center, 2015). Revisions accompanied an eponymous exhibition at the Bard Graduate Center Gallery in New York (17 September 2015–22 February 2016). Her most recent books include The Explicit Material: Inquiries on the Intersection of Curatorial and Conservation Cultures (co-edited with Francesca Bewer and Katharina Ammann; Brill: Boston/Leiden, 2019, Art and Materiality series), an anthology Landscape co-edited with Johannes Hedinger (Berlin: Vexer, 2020), Object-Event-Performance: Art, Materiality and Continuity since the 1960s (New York: Bard Graduate Center, 2022, Cultural Histories of the Material World) and Performance: The Ethics and the Politics of Care, Vol. 1, co-edited with Jules Pelta Feldman and Emilie Magnin (London and New York, Routledge 2023). show More
