Piotr Ponikowski, MD PHD, FESC, FHFA is the professor of cardiology, Rector and the Head of Institute of Heart Diseases at Wroclaw Medical University, Poland. His research interests focus on the pathophysiology and management of acute and chronic heart failure. He is co-author of more than 700 peer-reviewed papers with total number of citations: >120000, h-index=128; selected among Highly Cited Researchers by Thomson Reuters 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020. In the years 2004-2019 professor Ponikowski served as a Member of Board of Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology (since 2004; in 2010-2012 as the President of Heart Failure Association), former President of Polish Cardiac Society (2015-2019). He has been involved in the development of several guidelines on the management of cardiovascular diseases edited by the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) as the member of the ESC Committee for Practice Guidelines and was the Chair of the 2016 ESC Heart Failure Guidelines. He is a member of editorial boards for several cardiology-focused journals.
