SHORT PROFILE PROFESSOR JOSE MARIA GUILEMANY Thermal Spray Centre (CPT) Leader has 49 years of academic trajectory and last 35-year-long, distinguished career at University of Barcelona as Full Professor of Physical Metallurgy and Materials Science & Engineering of Spain and great international reputed expert in the field of Thermal Spraying in particular. He is the author of more than 1.580 scientific and technical contributions, 780 indexed papers on materials science and engineering (ResearchGate, 8.500 total citations by 102.700 reads and scopus h- index 48) and the author of 68 books-Chapters Book, he had supervised more than 50 students degree of PhD and has 37 patents & industrial secrets concerning extractive metallurgy, welding processes, cast iron, smart materials- shape memory alloys, metals recycling particularly copper, coatings from gas sensors and radiation to electrodes for electric car, medical prosthesis, thermal barriers & intermetallics for aeronautical blades, superwear and corrosion resistance for harsh conditions, superhydrophobic, icephobic, self-cleaning, photocatalytic, among others, as well as, additive manufacturing of Metallic Materials and Metallic Glass using conventional and new technologies of Thermal Spray During the last 30 years has organized or co-organized conferences, schools like the world recognized “Barcelona Cold Gas Spray Summer School”, scientific and technical sessions, workshops, meetings and congress (among others, Barcelona, International Thermal Spray Conference and Exhibition, ITSC2014 and Congreso Nacional de Materiales CNM2014, in collaboration with the professional societies and worldwide industrial sector, he is very reputed at National and International level. Pioneer in Spain in Scanning Electron Microscopy and Electron Probe Microanalysis Materials Area Works (1970) and also pioneer in the introduction of the Thermal Spray Technologies in 1980 at the academic and technology side with the founding of a Thermal Spray Centre (CPT) in 1994 of international reputation. He has been awarded Gold Medal and Prize (1977) of The Spanish Royal Academy of Science, in 1982 he was awarded by the International Metallographic Society, USA; in 1988 was awarded as Distinguish Member of the Spanish Welding Society and in 2006 by The Barcelona Town Prize “Premi Ciutat de Barcelona” for the technical trajectory of the Thermal Spray Centre and in 2010 he receives the Rose Prize from the Chinese Academy of Science. In 2011 the Scientific Spanish Association awards him as the best Spanish Scientific and in 2013 he has been elected Vice-President of the European Thermal Spray Association (ETSA). More recently the Medal of the University of Barcelona in 2017 and in 2018 was awarded as Member with Honors and medal of the Spanish Welding Society (CESOL). “JIM KAPE” Memorial Medal from Institute of Materials Fininshing (IMF), Birmingham,UK, November (2019). In 2019 was elected as Full Academician of the Royal European Academy of Doctors (RAED).
