Makinde, Oluwole Daniel  PhD

Prof. Makinde is presently a Professor of Applied and Computational Mathematics at the Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, South Africa. He is also a visiting Professor of Applied and Computational Mathematics to several other Universities, including the VIT in India; the NM-AIST in Tanzania; the PAUISTI in Kenya; the AUST in Nigeria; and the ASTU in Ethiopia. Before joining Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University, Prof. Makinde already worked as a Senior Professor and Director of Postgraduate Studies and the founding Director of the Institute for Advanced Research in Mathematical Modelling and Computations at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, South Africa (2008–2013) and Full Professor and Head of the Applied Mathematics Department at the University of Limpopo, South Africa (1998–2008). Prof. Makinde is the recipient of the 2014 Nigerian National Honour Award titled MFR for his outstanding contribution to mathematical sciences and technology by His Excellency the President of Nigeria. He won the prestigious 2011 African Union Kwame Nkrumah Continental Scientific Award from African heads of state for outstanding contributions to basic science, technology and innovation in Africa; the winner of the South African National Science and Technology Forum and the National Research Foundation (NRF) 2009/2010 T.W. Kambule Senior Researcher Award for outstanding contributions to science, engineering, technology and innovation in South Africa; winner of the Best Senior Research Scientist Award at the University of Limpopo (1999–2007); winner of the Best Senior Research Scientist Award at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (2008–2012); winner of the 2014 and 2015 Highly Commendable Published Papers Award and most outstanding reviewer from Emerald Group Publishing (UK); the Winner of the Research Scientist Award at the Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University (2016–2019), winner of Stellenbosch University Chancellor Award (2019) Winner Obada Prize (International) Distinguished Researcher Award, 2021. Prof. Makinde received a prestigious fellow of the African Academy of Sciences (2012) and fellow of the International Academy of Physical Sciences (2018) for his outstanding contributions to mathematical sciences. He received a fellow of the Papua New Guinea Mathematical Society for outreach contributions (2013) to the development of mathematical sciences research in Papua New Guinea. Prof. Makinde is on the editorial board of several reputable academic journals and also served as a reviewer for many reputable international academic journals worldwide and for the NRF. He is the lead guest editor of two special issues, titled “New developments in fluid mechanics and its engineering applications” published in the Mathematical Problems in Engineering (2013) and “Nonlinear fluid flow and heat transfer” published in the Advances in Mathematical Physics (2014). In 2017, Prof. Makinde edited four research books on Heat Transfer in Fluids and Solids” (DF Vol. 11 and DF Vol. 16) and (DDF Vol. 377, DDF Vol. 387, DDF Vol. 401, DDF Vol. 409), published by Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2021. He also authored four textbooks and monographs on particle mechanics & Incompressible flow theory and published over 400 research papers in many reputable international journals. His research covers a broad range of topics, including fluid mechanics, nanofluid dynamics, heat and mass transfer, hydrodynamic stability, dynamical systems, bio-mathematics and epidemiological modelling, combustion theory, computational mathematics and improved perturbation techniques.
