Jonathan Steed was born in London in 1969. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1993 at University College London, on coordination chemistry. Between 1993 and 1995 he was a NATO postdoctoral fellow at the Universities of Alabama and Missouri. In 1995 became a Lecturer at Kings College London. In 2004 he moved to Durham University where he is now Professor of Inorganic Chemistry. Steed is co-author of the book Supramolecular Chemistry (2000, 2009 & 3rd Ed 2022) and has also published around 350 research papers and edited works including the 8 volume Supramolecular Chemistry from Molecules to Nanomaterials (2012). He was Associate Editor of NJC 2001-2009, Associate Editor for ChemComm 2010-2019 and is now Editor-in-Chief of Crystal Growth & Design. He is the recipient of the Meldola Medal (1998), the VC's Award for Excellence in Postgraduate Teaching (2006), the Bob Hay Lectureship (2008), the Corday-Morgan Prize (2010) and the Tilden Prize (2021). Since 2018 he has been a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Awardee. His interests are in soft materials chemistry, gels, crystal growth, structural chemistry and pharmaceutical solid form.
