Dr. Begonya Garcia-Zapirain was graduated in Telecommunications Engineering and specialized in Telematics at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). After 5 years working for ZIV Company, in 1997 she joined the Engineering Faculty at the University of Deusto as a lecturer in signal theory and electronics, where she led the Telecommunications Department from 2002 to 2008. In 2003 she defended her PhD dissertation, with “Summa Cum Laude” distinction, in the pathological speech digital processing field. In 2011 she obtained an Executive MBA at the University of the Basque Country, with best student award, and in 2012 she graduated in the Advanced Program in Health Management at Deusto Business School, Deusto University. Since 2002 she participated in more than 80 national and international research projects, leading more than 40 of them as main researcher. As a result of these projects, she published more than 200 peer reviewed publications in international journals (140 of them in indexed journals), more than 150 proceedings at international conferences and wrote several books and chapters. In addition, she is a member of IEEE, part of the CGames and ISSPIT organization committee and she serves as a reviewer and editor in several international conferences (CGAMES, ISSPA, TAIMA, MIC-CNIT, ICECE, CGAG, TAEE, IWAAL, GCGC, CISCI) and journals (Sensors, Journal of Medical Systems, DYNA, IEEE RITA, EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, CESEI-CTAE, Int. Journal of Computer Systems, Science and Engineering, Journal of Sensor and Actuator Networks, IJIGS, BJAST, Int. Journal of Biochemistry Research and Review, Biomedical Signal Processing and Control…) Up-to-date she has successfully directed 12 doctoral theses, which obtained “Summa Cum Laude” distinction, and currently she is supervising the doctoral work of 7 students. In recognition of the quality of its research activities, the research group she leads won the Research Award 2007 UD-Grupo Santander, ONCE Euskadi Solidarity Award 2007, the award for best article in the Ggames 2009 International Congress and the prize for best poster in ISIVC 2008.
