Dr Garzali I U was born on the 3rd August 1984 in Northwestern part of Nigeria. He graduated from the prestigious Bayero University Medical School in 2010 with MBBS. He did his internship in Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Nigeria. After his internship, he was posted for one year mandatory National service in Kogi State, central part of Nigeria. It was at Kogi state that he developed interest in surgery because he was the only doctor in the hospital and he had to learn some major surgical procedures like exploratory laparotomy at such a young stage of his career. After the mandatory service, he enrolled in basic surgical training in Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital where he completed in 2015. He then enrolled in General surgery specialization program in Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital which he also successfully completed in 2019. He was inducted as a fellow of the West African College of Surgeons in 2020. In that same year, he became an associate fellow of American College of surgeons. In 2021, he enrolled in HPB and Transplantation fellowship in Liver Transplantation Institute of Inonu University, turkey which is the centre with highest volume of living donor liver transplantation in Europe. While in the institute, he was trained by Prof. Sezai Yilmaz, who is a globally renowned transplant surgeon and also a disciple of Starzl (the first person to perform liver transplant in 1963). He concluded the fellowship in 2022 and is currently workings towards performing the first liver transplantation in Nigeria. show More
