Mattias Lorentzon is a professor and chief physician in geriatric medicine at the University of Gothenburg and Sahlgrenska University Hospital. He is also the program leader for the Bone Health and Fractures Research Program at the Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Melbourne. He serves on the editorial board of Osteoporosis International and is a member of the Committee of Scientific Advisors for the International Osteoporosis Foundation. He was previously president of the Swedish Osteoporosis Society (2011-2015), director of the National Osteoporosis Research School (2012-2018), and had a prominent role in the development of diagnosis and treatment guidelines for the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen 2009-2014), and for the Swedish Osteoporosis Society (2021). He is currently the leader of the implementation of fracture liaison services in the Västra Götaland region, in western Sweden. He has led or participated as an investigator in several randomized trials investigating the effect of different interventions on bone density and fracture risk. His research interests include bone microstructure, the efficacy of osteoporosis medications, probiotics and bone, frailty, and fracture prediction in the elderly. He has made a significant contribution to the osteoporosis research field, with more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, published in scientific journals including JAMA, NEJM, Nature, and the Lancet, with over 27,500 citations. show More
